From field to table, Cirad’Innov®'s work provides a springboard to innovate and produce more and better, while respecting communities and ecosystems.
We work alongside firms, federations, local authorities and NGOs to develop environmentally friendly, socially responsible innovations in the field of agriculture, in association with tropical and Mediterranean regions. Our aim is to work together for a more sustainable, inclusive world.
Why work with us?
From plant genetics to compliance with local regulations, through more sustainable farming practices, our researchers help socioeconomic players tackle the technical, social and environmental challenges they face. We work at every stage of tropical and Mediterranean value chains. We are firmly implanted and have longstanding partnerships on the ground, allowing us to work with local partners to develop and transfer technical solutions to the specific issues facing those regions. Working closely with value chains, we can call upon a range of scientific disciplines to help you strengthen your partnership strategies and build the inclusive development models of the future. Let's work together on this!

Our fields of action
Crop- and animal-based tropical and Mediterranean value chains are the bedrock on which many sectors build to develop their activity. However, they face a range of challenges. How can we improve the environmental and social performance of agricultural production against a backdrop of climate change? How can we make better use of products, by-produits and co-products? How can we provide sanitary guarantees that live up to the huge challenges facing the world and its farming systems, within a One Health rationale? Virtuous R&D projects respond to productive, economic and commercial issues while conserving biodiversity and the environment, within an ethical, inclusive social framework.
A major proportion of economic value in our societies is drawn from agriculture. What are the mechanisms and opportunities for creating that value? How can we support new processes that respond to market changes, while safeguarding resources? Via its Cirad’Innov arm, CIRAD can help you to master the keys to the success of your R&D projects, from varietal approach to resilient farming systems.
CIRAD supports the development of entire animal value chains. We help players in those chains by supporting small-scale fish farming, livestock production practices and marketing networks. The aim is to boost producers’ resilience to climate change, improve the quality and competitiveness of foodstuffs, and limit the environmental impact of livestock farming.
Moving towards sustainable food brings a range of challenges. Cirad’Innov can help you to grasp the processes involved, from raw materials obtained from tropical or Mediterranean resources to end products. We help agricultural product processing firms and value chain stakeholders to develop innovative, more inclusive and resilient approaches.
Biodiversity protection and agriculture or forestry are not mutually exclusive. We help producers, processors and local authorities adopt more sustainable management methods, taking account of the environmental policy and regulatory issues specific to each country. We roll out tools and methods that boost productivity and support truly "green" projects, while limiting the impact on natural ecosystem management.

Since 2010, CIRAD and the Montpellier-based veterinary firm Innovative Diagnostics (ex-IDVet) have been working hand in hand to develop diagnostic tools for peste des petits ruminants (PPR). By pooling their efforts and expertise, the two organizations have been able to develop highly competitive, innovative products.
