“This fertilizer should be sent to the southern regions which produce the most food crops,” he said.

He also asked the factory management to use the media to advertise the fertilizer and advised the factory to produce leaflets that experts, the governor and district commissioners could use to enact the fertilizer. to promote.

Plant manager Tosk Hans said the plant had 10,000 tonnes and the southern regions had 2,000 tonnes where fertilizer was hampered by bad weather.

The Minjingu phosphate deposit is located 106 km southwest of Arusha, along the Arusha-Dodoma highway. The Minjingu deposit was discovered in 1956 by Gold Fields Mines, a South African company that was conducting a geophysical study on the lake area. As a result of several field surveys and detailed laboratory analyzes of samples taken from the region, a statutory mining company called Minjingu Phosphate Company (MIPCO) was established under the auspices of the Tanzania State Mining Corporation ( STAMICO). The main roles of the company were to extract and process the phosphate rock from Minjingu (MPR) and supply it to the Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) plant in Tanga, where it was then processed into chemical phosphate fertilizers such as as Single Super Phosphates (SSP) and Triple Super Phosphates (TSP).

However, due to some management issues as well as the change in the country’s policy, the Tanga factory was closed and the government subsequently privatized MIPCO and renamed the company Minjingu Mines and Fertilizer Ltd (MMFL). MMFL mined and processed Minjingu ore into powder for direct agricultural application in Tanzania and for the export market. Due to the proven effectiveness of MRP as a direct on-farm application fertilizer, MMFL later decided to change its brand name to Minjingu Organic Hyper Phosphate +.
