Police seize 40,000 bottles of codeine phosphate syrup worth over Rs 2 crore in Karimganj, Assam

Assam police seized a huge amount of contraband drugs – 40,000 bottles of codeine phosphate syrup – in Karimganj, Assam on Sunday. The market value of the drugs seized was estimated at over Rs 2 crore.

Assam police on Sunday seized a huge amount of contraband drugs, estimated at more than 2 crore rupees, in the Churaibari area, in the Karimganj district of Assam, along the border of the Assam. State with Tripura.

Police seized a shipment of codeine phosphate syrup from a truck, according to reports. A senior police official from Karimganj district said: “During a regular check, a police team seized 40,000 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup from a truck in the Churaibari region.

“The truck was heading for Agartala. The market value of the seized cough syrup bottles is worth more than 2 crore rupees, ”added the police official.

The contraband drugs were packaged in 250 cartons and concealed under 100 cartons of fruit in the truck. Police arrested the driver of the truck and registered a case.

Reacting to the development, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “#AssamAgainstDrugs Our police have hawk eyes! While sniffing a foul play, @assampolice seized a massive shipment of 40,000 bottles of codeine phosphate, packaged in 250 cartons and concealed under 100 cartons of fruit, in a truck in Karimganj en route to another state.
