Preserving biodiversity and tropical forests is a vital issue in the light of climate change. The Three Basins Summit will bring together leaders from the Amazon, Congo and the Borneo-Mekong-Southeast Asia region, to form a global coalition. The aim of the Summit is to set up the first global coalition to restore 350 million hectares of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, as part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
During the Summit, CIRAD and IRD are co-organizing a side event on scientific support of efforts to achieve the targets set by partnerships for forests, nature and climate (PFNCs), which provide financial and technical support. This calls for interdisciplinary scientific support, long-term financial mechanisms, and capacity building. The side event will allow participants to discuss the importance of scientific support for achieving the PFNC targets. It is supported by the One Forest Vision, launched the One Forest Summit in Libreville, Gabon.
